Rush

Shatter open, you thieving thunderclouds
Let your shrieking lightning dance with my fate
Awaken the brutal battle with no bounds
What a night, the haze shows me the gates

I need this rush even as it eats my soul
So be it, I’ve chosen

My mind stirs from the dead, rising through
remembrance of torment, of torture
The rains can’t wash off what’s not true
So I reopen this bloody smoldering suture

Watch your path as you tread through me,
So the twisted skulls of fallen Kings sigh
The fire in their eyes long faded, failed to be
Prayers etched upon bone, this one’s not a lie

I take to the skies, embrace the bitter frost
What a curse, singing a seething blaze
Devour another that’s already lost
Yet this won’t bring me out of this daze

I need this rush even as it eats my soul
So be it, I’ve chosen.

  1. This is good stuff. I loved Verse 1 and the two liner after that. Verses two and three did nothing to me, with the exception of "Prayers etched upon bone, this one's not a lie" Beautiful. Makes me wish I could write like you. The piece started with great promise. I was stunned by the imagery -
    "Shatter open, you thieving thunderclouds
Let your shrieking lightning dance with my fate" - Outstanding!
For me, the promise these line show dims a bit in the middle but resurrects nicely in the last verse.
    Keep writing!

  2. ..Write like me? Coming from you, that's flattering (:
    Thanks for the comment!
..While the imagery deliberately points to one thing (I'd kept in mind beasts of lore), the whole piece is symbolic of human emotion. I find it fasciniating how bent man is on self-destruction.

  3. I am assuming you’re way younger than I am. For one so young, your observations are remarkable. I always wonder at man’s love for ending everything that’s good and flourishing. I have the tendency too – towards self-destruction. And so does everyone. I can never explain why though. Maybe it’s because we want new things constantly. Or maybe we’re all smoking the wrong shit :P.

  4. ..and you're assumption is correct.

I'm more inclined toward the former explanation :P
